Dot NAME Domains

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME generic top-level domain name extension is the only one intended for personal web pages only. These domains can consist of personal or fictitious names, aliases and/or other titles people are popular by. Initially, solely third-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to book john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already registered third-level domain names remained online.
